About this Event
What is the model minority myth:
The model minority myth portrays Asians as naturally successful and hardworking. It is anti-Black because it’s used to suggest that racism isn’t the cause of inequality—implying Black people are at fault for disparities. This comparison upholds white supremacy by dismissing systemic injustice.
What are coffee chats:
Addressing the lack of accessible spaces for teen women—especially women of colour—to discuss racial issues, Let's Talk Women of Colour's youth-led Coffee Chats educate young women on social and political issues affecting BIPOC communities. We empower attendees to use their voices for change while collaborating with small, impact oriented coffee shops. Find your community over coffee, grounded in compassion.
Who are these chats for:
For 12 women aged 13-21 interested in social justice, racial justice and networking with like-minded women.

What can I expect and how do I prepare:
A youth leader from Let’s Talk Women of Colour will lead a presentation with guided discussion questions. You’ll explore history, social media examples, and share personal reflections in a small group setting. The space is friendly, open, and informal—no prior knowledge needed. This is for those looking to learn, connect, and build confidence in speaking about racism while making new friends. A group chat will be made prior to the coffee chat where an article will be shared with you if you'd like to familarize yourself with the content before the actual discussion.
Big sister program:
Attending a coffee chat for the first time can feel intimidating if you’re unsure about sharing in a new group. To support this, we pair first-time attendees with a returning participant who can guide them through the format and discussion as a mentor. When getting your ticket, indicate if you’d like a “big sister”
