About this Event
Class Description:
Discover the beauty and versatility of watercolor in this relaxed mixed media workshop inspired by the beach. Participants will explore foundational watercolor techniques including wet-on-dry and wet-on-wet washes, layering, and smooth color gradients while learning how to combine watercolor with additional mixed media elements to add texture, depth, and detail.
Using a provided sketched seashell illustration or their own shell-inspired composition, guests will create a finished 5x7 coastal artwork while experimenting with layering techniques and expressive mark-making. This class is designed to be approachable for beginners while still offering plenty of creative freedom for those with prior experience.
About the Instructor:
Lindsay Sheldon began creating The Paper Darlings by pure serendipity. One summer's day she gathered her art supplies and sat by the Capitol to sketch the landmark, but after failing at the first try, she changed course and whipped up a small painting of three friends sitting next to each other in swimsuits.
She held it up to the Capitol’s reflecting pool, snapped a photo and shared it. People began referring to the painted sunbathers as paper dolls and soon after The Paper Darlings was born. Now over six years later, her paintings have found homes across the globe and she continues to create new works as a mixed media artist, incorporating watercolor, ink, acrylic, oil and wax pastels into her art.
