Mission Drift is a progressive fusion rock band based in the Pacific Northwest, blending intricate rhythms, jazz improvisation, and cinematic textures into a sound that’s both adventurous and deeply musical. Drawing from a wide range of influences—from the raw fire of Hendrix to the cerebral edge of Zappa and the rhythmic pulse of modern jazz—Mission Drift delivers genre-defying performances that challenge and energize audiences.
The group brings together five accomplished musicians from across the West Coast jazz, rock, and classical scenes:
- Kurt Bischoff (drums) studied with avant-garde luminaries including John Cage and performed internationally with experimental ensembles before founding Mission Drift.
- Pat McInnis (guitar) channels Seattle’s rich rock heritage with a Zappa-esque edge, having performed with regional jazz legends and LA-based bands.
- Joe Rice (keys) is a Bremerton-born jazz pianist and composer who bridges the academic and the soulful, splitting his time between teaching and gigging with Latin and fusion groups.
- Wayne Swanson (sax, wind synth) brings East Coast grit and downtown NYC experimentation to the mix, with a deep history in soul jazz, Afro-Latin, and improvisational ensembles.
- Jon Green (bass), a retired Seattle Symphony veteran, adds virtuosity and versatility, drawing on decades of performance from classical to jazz to folk—and everything in between.
Together, Mission Drift crafts music that grooves hard, thinks deep, and embraces the unexpected. Whether navigating shifting time signatures or soaring melodic lines, their live sets are a journey—equal parts head and heart.
