Description:
This course seeks to educate and inform participants in how disrupted placements, including removal from the birth family, impact children and young people. The course will give practitioners practical strategies based on evidence-based practice and top tips to help minimize disruption and distress for children involved in the child welfare system. Special consideration will be given to how to form and maintain a positive working relationships with birth parents.
Objectives:
1. To explore the impact of loss and change upon children, young people, and birth parents involved in the child welfare system
2. To support workers and foster parents, working in partnership, to plan and facilitate successful, ‘child-centred’ transitions.
3. To provide workers and foster parents with resources and ideas to support children and young people experiencing change

CECHs: 1 Continuing Education Contact Hour. Trauma Informed Care Certificate Elective Course.
Skill Level: Recommended for LMSW beginning and intermediate skill levels.

Instructor: Kelley Hollie, LMSW
Kelley Hollie is an LMSW, therapist, and scholar-activist with 18 years experience in child welfare, international adoption, international Social Work, working with trauma and clinical practice. Her research interests include trauma, child welfare, autism, transracial adoption, the Black family, and social work education. She resides in Phoenix, Arizona with her husband and two young children.
