Join us for an evening dedicated to the healing power of our animal companions. We are honored to host Michael Hansen, Director of Advancement, as well as a human/animal therapy team from Hand in Paw, an organization that has spent over twenty-five years improving health and well-being through the unique bond between humans and animals.The Science of a Sense of Calm:
Mindfulness is often about finding a path to physical and emotional relaxation. As it turns out, that path is frequently paved with fur. Research shows that the simple act of petting an animal creates an automatic relaxation response. By lowering heart rate and decreasing blood pressure, these gentle interactions provide myriad benefits that align perfectly with a meditative practice.
What you will learn during this session:
The Biology of Comfort: How animals use their keen sensitivity to human emotion to provide relief.
Therapy vs. Activity: The difference between Animal-Assisted Therapy and Animal-Assisted Activities.
Impact in Action: How HIP teams enhance wellness in high-stress environments like hospitals, universities, and early intervention organizations.
A light meal will be offered at 6:00 pm, followed by the class at 7:00.
