“Behind the Lenz: A Tribute to William Chaney”
As part of the Million Man March Week of Events, HomeBase PA proudly presents “Behind the Lenz” — a powerful exhibit honoring the life and legacy of William Chaney, a visionary Philadelphia photographer who captured the soul of Black excellence through his lens.
From iconic images of Stevie Wonder, Kenny Gamble, Donny Hathaway, and Chaka Khan, to everyday portraits that reflected community, culture, and pride — William Chaney’s work tells the story of a man who achieved in every field of human endeavor. His photography graced the pages of Jet Magazine throughout the 1970s and 80s, documenting moments that defined an era.
Thirty years ago, William attended the first Million Man March alongside his sons. Now, his family continues his legacy by sharing his timeless collection during this historic 30th Anniversary Celebration — reminding us of the power of unity, artistry, and the stories that connect generations.
