MIKE GARRY & THE CASSIA STRING QUARTET offer up a unique and intimate performance at St Mary's Church, Nantwich on Wednesday May 13th—this is not to be missed! Featuring internationally acclaimed poet Mike Garry, whose work champions the voices and stories of ordinary people. His words celebrate resilience, humour and humanity, and finding the beauty in the everyday amongst the ugliness and tragedy. His poetry has been praised by Shaun Ryder of Happy Mondays as “the best street poetry I’ve ever heard”, while iconic designer Peter Saville described him simply as “a genius”.
Performing in more than 1,000 venues across the UK, Europe, the United States and Canada, including extensive touring with legendary poet John Cooper Clarke since 2011.
Mike is passionate and has become widely recognised for his creative collaborations spanning music and classical composition. He has worked with New Order (band), performed alongside Iggy Pop, Patti Smith and The National at Carnegie Hall for Tibet House US, and collaborated with legendary composer Philip Glass, who fell in love with his words.
His collaboration with composer Joe Duddell and The Cassia String Quartet — St Anthony: An Ode to Tony Wilson — reached No.1 in three Official UK Charts in 2016.
In 2023, Mike and The Cassia String Quartet wrote and produced the album Handwritten Miracles, in which the electronic Duo Orbital, along with David Holmes and DJ Helen Thompson, resampled Tonight to produce the single Tonight in Belfast.
