Info: Nicolene Gibbons was born in Bloemfontein, and started her music studies there. She was taught piano by Catharina Struthers, and instructed in composition by Prof. Johann Potgieter. From a young age she performed on radio and television, often her own compositions.

She attained a BA Mus at the University of the Free State under Nettie Immelman. At this time she was awarded overseas scholarships of SAMRO, UNISA, and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

An Honours degree followed at the University of Cape Town under the tutelage of Lamar Crowson.

Nicolene studied with Neil Immelman at the Royal College of Music in London. During her two years there she completed an MMus in Performance Studies. She was awarded numerous prizes, including for outstanding performances of contemporary music, and for best performance of a Romantic work. She was fortunate to receive masterclasses from Tatiana Nikolaeva, Graham Johnson, Dalton Baldwin and Geoffrey Parsons
