Michael Joseph Mitchell & Friends “JOYFUL NOISE: THE SONGS OF SHAINA TAUB”
A celebration of the music of the 2-time Tony Award winner and star of SUFFS, TWELFTH NIGHT & AS YOU LIKE IT
Shaina Taub is a 2-time Tony award winner for her score and book of the Broadway musical SUFFS, in which she also played the lead role of suffragist Alice Paul. The New York Times hailed her as “belonging to a breed of performers, who, apart from being artists, are gravitational forces around whom others cluster like filings to a magnet”. She collaborated with Elton John on the musical adaptation of THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, writing the lyrics to John’s music. She also wrote and starred in two musical adaptations of Shakespeare works, AS YOU LIKE IT and TWELFTH NIGHT, produced by the Public Theater, where she is an artist-in-residence. She was in the casts of HADESTOWN and NATASHA, PIERRE AND THE GREAT COMET OF 1812, plus appeared with Bill Irwin and David Shiner in OLD HATS at the Signature Theatre, which featured her music. She is an Atlantic Records recording artist and has released several albums of her own work. She was named to Time100s Next List of rising leaders shaping the future.
Michael Joseph Mitchell (me) is a Chicago based actor and singer, with six previous cabaret acts to his credit. He has also appeared at Chicago Shakespeare, Writers Theatre, Drury Lane Oakbrook, Porchlight Music Theatre, Lyric Opera, and others. Ms. Taub’s music has quite frankly sustained me and kept me going the last several years. Come join us as we celebrate the wit, humor, depth, heart, and humanity of her sonic catalogue. With Maddy Kelly, Samantha Buckley and Rachel Livingston on vocals, Adam Whiteman on drums, and Andrew Hollander-Urbach on piano. Plus special guest Zoé Soteres, winner of the Chicago Cabaret Professionals New Vocalist Award for excellence. We promise you a party! (And our 10/6 show is on Shaina’s birthday!)
