About this Event

This is an Online Training Series composed of 5 meetings at the following dates and times:

March 5-7, 2025, March 21, 2025 and March 28, 2025 from 9:00am to 12:00pm Pacific Time

Course Description:

This live streaming, hands on course helps you to understand the coding process of the MICA (Motivational Interviewing Competency Assessment). It helps you answer the question; Does the communication method of this practitioner demonstrate a level of competency representative of Motivational Interviewing (MI)?

As MI continues to evolve, there is an increasing demand for training in the use of coding tools for providing practical feedback to professionals in any service field on how to build their skill-set in MI. This training of the MICA coding manual requires that you have a strong working knowledge of Motivational Interviewing since it is used as for both coding and coaching.

The coding class is multiple shorter trainings, to give you time to learn the MICA, practice by listening to audio’s of conversations and then collaborate and learn as a group again.

You will learn how to/Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the process of coding and coaching with the MICA manual
  • Analyze Motivational Interviewing Micro-skills & verbal interventions accurately
  • Recognize demonstrations of Motivational Interviewing intentions & strategies
  • Develop a tangible decision tree for using the MICA and the MICA report system

Completing this training allows you full licensed use of the MICA manual and will give you the tools you need to provide professionals easily digestible, structured, and specific feedback regarding their effort to use MI with their clients.

An evaluation is included with your handouts for the course; please complete and return to IFIOC. Once the completed evaluation is returned a Certificate of Completion will be sent out via your registered email address within 5 business days.

Requirements to receive Continuing Education Certificate link

This training is designed for social workers and behavioral health professionals. IFIOC #1485 is approved as a provider for work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) www.aswb.org, through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. IFIOC maintains responsibility for the program. Social workers participating in this training will receive 15 continuing education clock hours. Professionals should contact their individual regulatory board to review current continuing education requirements for licensure renewal. ASWB Approval Period: 05/30/2024 to 05/30/2027.
