Join us at the Coralville Public Library on the third Saturday of May, June, and July to learn some traditional Mexican foods with the "three sisters" using the Library's Charlie Cart kitchen on wheels. Separate registration is required for each event through the Library's website calendar. You do not need to attend all three.Broaden your recipe repertoire with foods that are good for you and the planet! In this hands-on series, you’ll get to know the “three sisters”—corn, beans, and squash—three staples in Mexican cuisine which grow well right here in Iowa (known by many indigenous cultures as the three sisters to honor the special status of the crops and because they can be grown in symbiosis).
You’ll chop, mix, and sample several vegetarian recipes that feature each ingredient and take home a recipe card to make again at home!
May 16--Corn: make fresh tortillas and learn what goes into making homemade chips, sopes, and gorditas. Plus, you’ll learn how to make roasted tomato salsa for chilaquiles.
June 20--Beans: starting with dried beans, we’ll show you how to integrate beans into your meals and make pico de gallo and enfrijoladas.
July 18--Squash: Learn to make squash blossom quesadillas and delicious zucchini tacos.
*Liability form will be offered and is mandatory before entry into the event.
If you have registered and can no longer attend, please cancel your registration online to allow space for someone else at the event.
