Gain the tools, skills, & most importantly, the confidence, to identify & respond to someone who may be experiencing a mental health crisis.
About this Event

This is a 1-day, virtual Adult Mental Health First Aid Training hosted via Zoom. Times shared in the Agenda section are in Pacific Standard Time but all time zones are welcome.

Mental Health First Aid is a course that teaches you how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The training helps you identify, understand, and respond to signs of addictions and mental illnesses.

Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In the Mental Health First Aid course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help.

Topics Covered

  • Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges, including depression and mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, psychosis, and more.
  • Common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges.
  • How to interact with a person in crisis.
  • How to connect a person with help.
  • Expanded content on trauma, substance use and self-care.

Mental Health First Aid teaches about recovery and resiliency – the belief that individuals experiencing these challenges can and do get better, and use their strengths to stay well.

Pre-Requisite Notes:

1) You will be required to accept a Learner Portal invite email. Within one day of doing so, you will gain access to the 2 hours of required pre-work.

2) Your pre-work modules #1-9 are due by the day before your training. Failure to complete this will result in you being unenrolled from the course and unable to attend the Instructor-led session. You will not receive a refund if you are dis-enrolled due to incomplete pre-work. If you are dis-enrolled from the course and re-enrolled in a future course, you will need to restart your evaluations and pre-work.

Note: This training will be cancelled and you will be offered other date options if less than 4 participants are registered.
