Mental Health First Aid course description:
Mental Health First Aid (EMS- Fire) is a skills-based training program that teaches First Responders such as EMS, FIRE and Police response Teams or individuals how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges. Just like traditional first aid, it equips people to provide initial support to someone in distress and connect them with appropriate professional help.
The course covers topics such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance use disorders, and participants learn a 5-step action plan to use in both crisis and non-crisis situations. MHFA is an evidence-based program that works to reduce the stigma associated with mental health conditions. Training is offered for various groups, including the general public, veterans, and youth.
What to Expect:
To sign up, please provide an email you check regularly, as you will be getting emails from us. What you can expect:
1) Illume will email access to create an account on the MHFA Connect site.
2) Two hours of pre-work must be completed to attend the training.
3) To gain your Mental Health First Aid Certificate, you will need to pass an exam through National Counsel (on the MHFA Connect site).
4) You will be asked to partake in a pre & post test evaluation survey. This survey aids in the understanding of the grants goals and hopes to encourage future funding. This survey is not required.
5.) Mental Health First Aid requires a minimum of 5 learners per each training. If less than 5 learners complete the pre-work and come to the training, this training would have to be cancelled or rescheduled.
This course is valued at $170. Thanks to a generous grant from SAMSHA, tickets will be paid for; learners may attend at no charge. This project was supported by Grant Number 1H79SM084448-01 from SAMHSA. Its contents are solely the responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily represent the official views of the SAMHSA.
