Both raised in the church choirs of Memphis, they took different paths to jazz greatness. Swiney, a former vocalist for Al Green and a pillar of the Memphis music scene, brings a soulful, brassy resonance known to light up Court Square. Williamson, returning home from her role as a professor at Berklee College of Music, brings a global reputation as a "breathtaking" improviser and classical flutist-turned-jazz-virtuoso.
