The cost of the ENTIRE trip per person, including diving, hotel (based on double-occupancy) and Nitrox tanks is $1,296 per person.
This trip includes: 11 Dives including double-dip at the Spiegel Grove, the Eagle, the Benwood, ALL Nitrox tanks provided for deep dives in the AM and THREE night stay at Ocean Pointe Suites.
You must be Advanced and Nitrox certified for this trip. Pair this trip with your Advanced and Nitrox course! Advanced and Nitrox is discounted for this trip!
Friday: We will arrive Friday evening in Tavernier, Florida. We have blocked off some rooms and should all be together. Hotel is to be determined and based on per person double occupancy and one bedroom per couple. Each room has its own bathroom, and each suite shares a kitchen and a living room. If you wish to have a 2-bedroom to yourself or a single occupancy suite, those are available as well. Let us know and we will adjust pricing, as needed. Each 2-bedroom suite has one king bed and the option for one queen bed or two twin beds. This must be arranged ahead of time.
Saturday: We will arrive at Conch Republic Divers in Taviener in the morning where we will head out for some wreck diving first, the USS Spiegel Grove first followed by a two-tank dive on the SS Benwood Wreck and French or Molasses Reef.
Sunk in 2002, the USS Spiegel Grove is a sunken dock landing ship. The ship was commissioned in June of 1956 and decommissioned in October of 1989. The vessel was named after the 19th President of the United States, Rutherford B. Hayes’ home and estate, named Spiegel Grove in Fremont, Ohio. The ship lies in 45 to 130-foot water, perfect for either recreational or technical diving. The ship is 510 feet by 84 feet and the deck is located 60 feet below the surface. The vessel’s hull is as much as 135 feet under water and technical divers can discover the labyrinth that is inside. Due to its size, others say that no matter how many times you dive into this wreck, you never see the same thing.
The SS Benwood was a steam cargo ship built in England in 1910 and served as a merchant marine freighter. She sank in 1942 when she collided with another ship, the Tuttle on route from Tampa, Florida to Norfolk, Virginia. The Benwood was travelling completely blacked out, as there were rumors of German U Boats in the area that evening.
Saturday Evening: We are headed out for a NIGHT DIVE! We are thinking Turtle Reef – which has been deemed, “Turtle CITY.” This reef is situated north of Turtle Rocks shoal and within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, east of John Pennekamp. This reef has been known to have hundreds of turtles at night staying in their little “condos.”
Sunday: Sunday fun day, is reserved for some fun dives! We will head out for some wreck diving with a double-dip on The Eagle and some reefs in the afternoon!
The 287-foot freighter, The Eagle was built in 1962, starting off with Danish ship owners. The ship was bought and sold a few times and eventually bought by the Eagle tire company. on 19 December 1985 the ship was bought by the Florida Keys Artificial Reef Association and renamed Eagle. This wreck lies at at a maximum depth of 110 feet adorned with a photogenic crow’s-nest and forward cargo boom, perfect for snapping a photo or two! Keep an eye out for schooled blue runners, greater barracuda, Goliath grouper, sawfish, sharks and more!
Monday: Two-tank Wall Dives We’ll close out the trip with two beautiful drift dives along Conch Wall or another deep wall drift. These sites are supposed to have some of the most beautiful sponges and coral in the area. A rare type of coral called Black Coral is found in this area and is associated with healing and protection. Eagle Rays will often school in deeper water so, this is a great place to see them. These sites are around 85 to 100 feet. Since it is a drift dive, you are able to see a lot of life in a short amount of time.
Class Pairings: Pair this trip with your Advanced for $525 (normally $595) or your Nitrox certification add on for $185 (normally $225). We will also have equipment available for rent for this trip. Please arrange ahead of time.
