Mehrangarh Trio

DE: Das Trio wurde erst vor kurzem von drei in Berlin lebenden Musikern gegründet. Ihre musikalischen Hintergründe könnten unterschiedlicher nicht sein, doch alle haben ihre Karriere damit verbracht, eine Vielzahl von Stilen zu spielen. Sie teilen eine große Leidenschaft für Improvisation und erkunden diese in verschiedenen musikalischen Umgebungen.

ist ein aus Ungarn stammender Schlagzeuger/Perkussionist. Bereits mit 14 Jahren spielte er professionell in der Budapester Musikszene. Er schloss sein Studium an der Codarts University of Rotterdam mit summa cum laude ab. Seine Fähigkeit, sowohl traditionelle Nahost-Perkussion als auch das Schlagzeug zu spielen, macht ihn einzigartig, zusammen mit seinem tiefen Verständnis verschiedener Traditionen. Er hat bei großen Weltmusik- und Jazzfestivals weltweit mit Künstlern wie Nadishana, Besh o droM, Mahesh Vinayakram, Grzech Piotrowski, Machito Crespo, Szymon Mika und Kinga Glyk gespielt.

zählt zu den innovativsten Bassisten seiner Generation und hat während seines Studiums in seinem Heimatland Italien zahlreiche Preise gewonnen. Er ist Absolvent des Berklee College of Music und lebte jahrelang in New York. Sein Spiel zeichnet sich durch eine außergewöhnliche Melodik aus, verbunden mit einem starken Sinn für Rhythmus. Mit seinen 6- und 7-saitigen Bässen begleitet er auch harmonisch. Er hat mit Künstlern wie Adama, Nu Genea, Aly Keita, Steve Hunt, Virgil Donati, Seamus Blake und Nadishana gearbeitet.

Das dritte Mitglied des Trios ist der in Istanbul geborene , der heute vielleicht der bekannteste Spieler der türkischen Kemençe ist. Sein beeindruckendes Lebenswerk lässt sich kaum zusammenfassen, doch man kann ihn auf Alben und in Konzerten mit Künstlern wie dem Necdet Yasar Ensemble, Incesaz, Jivan Gasparyan, Renaud Garcia-Fons, Damir Imamovic oder mehreren Projekten von Kudsi Erguner hören. Derya hat auch mehrere Alben unter seinem eigenen Namen veröffentlicht. Er gibt Workshops und Seminare an den renommiertesten Universitäten und bleibt ein Referenzpunkt für alle Kemençe-Spieler.

Diese außergewöhnliche Besetzung ist ein Rezept für einen ebenso außergewöhnlichen Sound, der die traditionelle osmanische Musiksprache mit der des Jazz verbindet. Das Programm des Trios ist stark improvisatorisch geprägt.

EN: The trio was formed very recently by three musicians residing in Berlin. Their musical background differs vastly from one another; however, they all spent their career playing a wide variety of styles. They share a big passion towards improvisation and exploring that in different musical environments.

is a Hungary-born drummer/percussionist. He started playing professionally on the Budapest scene at the age of 14. He’s a summa cum laude graduate of the Codarts University of Rotterdam. His ability to play middle eastern percussion and drum set makes him stand out, together with his understanding of different traditions. He has played in major world music and jazz festivals all over the globe with artists such as Nadishana, Besh o droM, Mahesh Vinayakram, Grzech Piotrowski, Machito Crespo, Szymon Mika or Kinga Glyk.

is one of the most innovative bass players in his generation, having won multiple awards as a student in his home country, Italy. He is a Berklee College of Music alumni, having lived in New York for years as well. His playing is characterized by being extremely melodic, all while maintaining a very strong sense of rhythm. Using 6 or 7 string basses, he’s also a harmonic accompanist. He has worked with artists like Adama, Nu Genea, Aly Keita, Steve Hunt, Virgil Donati, Seamus Blake or Nadishana.

The third member of the trio is Istanbul-born , who is perhaps the most prominent player of the Turkish kemenche today. It is hard to sum of the body of work he has accumulated over the years, but one can hear him on albums/concerts with artists like the Necdet Yasar Ensemble, Incesaz, Jivan Gasparyan, Renaud Garcia-Fons, Damir Imamovic or several of Kudsi Erguner’s projects. Derya has also released several albums under his own name. He has been giving workshops and seminars in the most prestigious universities, and continues to be a reference point to all kemenche players.

This unusual setting is a recipe for an unusual sound, which incorporates the traditional Ottoman language, as well as that of jazz. The program of the trio is highly improvisational.
