About this Event
Meeting the Moment: Abolitionist Interventions in the Face of Retrenchment is a first-of-its-kind convening at Georgetown Law. At a time when carceral systems are expanding in scope and power, this symposium seeks to interrogate what abolitionist legal thought offers in this moment of regression.
Through multidisciplinary engagement, scholars, teachers, organizers, artists, and students will explore abolitionist approaches to litigation, legislation, and liberation. We will examine how the legal system upholds carceral power and how we might reimagine it as a tool for transformation.
The symposium will serve as the launch of Abolition Law & Policy Review (ALPR), a new integrated publication that aims to highlight abolitionist thought and practice across law, policy, and art. The symposium will be followed by ALPR Volume 1.1, to be published in December 2026, and will feature works from symposium speakers, panelists, and artists.
