About this Event
Marchmont has a unique energy, from the spring blossom on Warrender Park Road to the morning hum of the cafe. In collaboration with Machina, local illustrator Shirley Hottier has captured this local spirit in a limited edition range of merch, and we are hosting a get-together to celebrate the launch.
Shirley’s background in architecture across Berlin and London eventually led her to Edinburgh in 2021. Today, she swaps blueprints for digital pixels, blending a structural eye with a playful style inspired by the scenes she spots from her usual cafe seat. Her designs for this collection focus on the modern lines of the shop and the lively community that fills it.
The evening
We're hosting an informal talk about the leap from architecture to illustration, the reality of a late-night creative process, and how Marchmont has influenced these designs. Shirley’s husband, Douglas MacGregor, will also be performing live classical guitar throughout the evening.
You'll have the first look at the new merchandise and the opportunity to take your favourite pieces home. It's a relaxed chance to meet the artist, enjoy some live music, and celebrate the creativity of Marchmont!
