Artist statement:
Kelli Johansen creates art that refuses to be quiet.
Her anatomical hearts paintings are bold, electric, unapologetically alive; muscle, color, and vulnerability exposed. These are not symbols of fragility. They are proof of a life lived.
Her photography returns us to our roots; to light, to earth, to what is unfiltered and true. No staging. No shrinking. The wild does not ask to be understood before it exists. Neither does she.
As an Adult and Pediatric Hospice Nurse, she’s witnessed how brief and sacred a life can be. That knowledge sharpens her work. Nothing here is casual. Every image carries a pulse.
This is art about vitality and grit.
About standing fully lit in a temporary body.
About refusing to shrink.
It burns bright, on purpose.
