About This Event:
Over four weeks, build your musical skills and be transported through time with Song Book!
In this program, participants will explore a range of musical genres – from Country and Jazz to Rock & Roll – through song-based group learning. Each week the group will learn new songs and be introduced to a variety of instruments.
Beginner level instruction will be provided for guitar, ukelele, piano and voice.
Over four weeks, participants will:
- Learn music theory and hone musical skills through performing historically important compositions and explore the cultural histories that have shaped music over time.
- Build confidence making music with others, by practicing rhythm, harmony, and communication in a group setting.
- Explore playing genres including Blues, Jazz, Country and Rock & Roll.
Please note, this course is a four-week commitment, Wednesdays 5-26 August 5:30-7:30pm, so please ensure you can attend all sessions before booking.
- Week 1 – Country: Rural Life Across Continents
- Week 2 - Folk to Jazz
- Week 3 - Modern Popular Music (Jazz Age)
- Week 4 - Modern Popular Music (Spirit of the 60’s)
Cost: $27.50 for four sessions.
Age: 16+
Skill level: All levels of musical experience welcome.
Equipment: All instruments will be provided; however, participants are welcome to bring instruments from home or borrow from the Musical Instruments collection.
About the Facilitator:
Tito Espinosa is a songwriting, guitar playing, record producing, music/film/art nerd from New York City. His passion for folk and blues music has given him a distinct people-centred approach to teaching. For years Tito performed as Chorizo Slim and The Boogie Blues Band and now he releases music through his small label Boogie Strange Records.
