About this Event
For more than a decade, we’ve been working on-the-ground in cities across the U.S. to advance local manufacturing ecosystems as the Urban Manufacturing Alliance. But our vision for social change is growing, and we’re no longer just working in urban areas. That’s why we’re excited to announce that we will soon become Mechanism.
Come celebrate with us on Monday, September 29th! Enjoy good food, local drinks, and help dream up exciting ways to scale the region’s making and manufacturing to create a more resilient, stable, and accessible Cincinnati region.
Why are we launching in Cincinnati? Besides being an amazing city… Mechanism has a long history of working in Cincinnati, which inspired us to want to celebrate this big moment with you.
Why should you attend? Attend to meet Mechanism’s board and staff and other local big thinkers, and change makers. Also - did we mention good food, local drinks, and forward-thinking conversations about manufacturing and local production ecosystems?
This free event is open to everyone! Please share this registration page!
UMA’s History in Cincinnati
From 2018-2019, we partnered with a lot of local groups to help us pull off our State of Urban Manufacturing report. We surveyed over 100 makers and manufacturers in Cincinnati (and five other cities) to understand the strengths and opportunities within the ecosystem. Here is our city snapshot, an ecosystem map, and a business case study. This also contributed to a national report.
In 2019, we also hosted a Design Jam event, which you can learn more about here.
In 2020, we were commissioned to do a training for intermediaries on Local Branding Initiatives (e.g. SFMade, Made in NYC, Made in Baltimore) and produce a feasibility study. This is where the Cincinnati Makers Collaborative was born, which we've been facilitating for the past three years, driven by many local contributors.
