To mark the countdown, Lewis Barbecue will co-host a special “Meat & Greet,” free and open to the public, on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 1-3 PM. The event is co-hosted by The Cook’s Warehouse, located next door to the new restaurant, to offer neighbors and food lovers from the broader Atlanta community a taste of the big and bold flavors that have made Lewis Barbecue a culinary destination in Charleston and Greenville, S.C. The Atlanta location will be Lewis’ first outside of South Carolina.
“Atlanta has an incredible food culture, and we are honored to become part of it,” said John Lewis, owner and pitmaster, Lewis Barbecue. “This community has already given us such a warm welcome, and the ‘Meat & Greet’ will offer a glimpse of what’s to come.”
Guests will enjoy signature bites such as Lewis’ famous “Hot Guts” sausage, slow-smoked beef ribs, Hatch chile corn pudding, and housemade pickles, along with stories behind the restaurant’s nationally acclaimed barbecue.
“We love that our corner of Atlanta is home to Lewis Barbecue’s first location beyond South Carolina! We know it will quickly become a gathering place for both locals and visitors to our neighborhood,” said Bill Compton, president, Piedmont Heights Civic Association. “Having the legendary culinary institution, The Cook’s Warehouse, and the award-winning Lewis Barbecue next door to each other will make Ansley Mall and this part of the Beltline a true hub for food lovers.”
Lewis Barbecue first announced its expansion to Atlanta in 2024. Known for its Central Texas-style smoked meats, lively atmosphere, and community-first approach, the restaurant has received national praise from Southern Living, Garden & Gun, Forbes, and Conde Nast Traveler.
The new Atlanta location will be the brand’s first outside of South Carolina, reflecting Lewis’ commitment to bringing authentic Central Texas-style barbecue and border cuisine elements to new audiences.
