The MDHT crew are excited to bring Miles Maeda back to the scene of the crime. I say crime because the last time he played at Alchemy he murdered the dance floor and we expect this time to not be any different. As many of you know our dear friend and longtime supporter Jessica Shea was in a horrific camping accident in Nashville. If you aren't familiar you can read about it here.
Jessica, who is also the founder of the Memphis Mushroom Festival, is near and dear to our hearts and is considered our family. When we learned of this accident the first thing we said to each other is "when are we doing a fundraiser?".
The original plan was to do one large event with our frequent collaborator Papa Chubb, but due to circumstances beyond our control, that wasn't able to happen like we wanted. In order to have the show with Miles we had to split the fundraiser into two seperate events. We will announce details of the second event in the coming days.
For this evening the majority of the proceeds will go to Jessica. There are some minimal costs involved with a production of this nature, but the main goal is to be able to provide as much assistance to Jessica as we can while keeping the cover low.
Djs for the evening:
Miles Maeda--
Miles Maeda is a house DJ/producer based in California who has deep ties to Chicago where he established himself artistically during the early to mid-90s before moving to San Diego and beginning his studies in yoga. Born and raised in Hawaii, Maeda moved to the Midwest in the late 80s and attended music school at Indiana University in Bloomington. While there he worked at the university’s radio station and got deeply into the Chicago house and Detroit techno that were coming to light at the time. In pursuit of his musical interests, he relocated to Chicago where he lived until the mid 90s. During this time he joined the ranks of DJs who helped shape the Chicago rave, club, and loft party scenes, notably co-founding the Material and Atmospheric Audio Chair club nights.
In 1995 Miles moved to San Diego where he began his yoga training while maintaining his ties to Chicago via a long-running residency at Smartbar that began in 1998. Meanwhile, he traveled internationally as a house DJ, and in the late 90s began releasing production work on various labels like Robsoul, Aroma, Kolour, Bambino, and Bump to name a few. In 2010 Miles relocated to Tokyo, Japan where he established the monthly party Zen Daze, which stimulated the prolific output of disco edits under the persona of Total M. Currently, Miles is back in San Diego working on his newest musical project AHzHA, creating an eclectic array of electronic music for his upcoming album.
