COFFEE WITH A CURATOR | M.C. Escher: Early Experiments to Infinite VariationsMonday 7.13 | 10:30a | Isabel Hall | FREE Admission
Associate Curator Rachael Holstege, Lecturer
Join Associate Curator Rachael Holstege to explore the mind-bending world of M.C. Escher, inspired by the exhibition M.C. Escher: Infinite Variations on view at the FIA. Although known for his prints that explore mathematical concepts and impossible spaces, this talk will also look at some of Escher’s earliest works from his time in Italy and his lesser-known book illustrations. From these formative experiments, we will trace the evolution of his ideas through some of his most celebrated prints—works that challenge our understanding of perspective, symmetry, and infinity—and conclude with a look at the final work Escher completed before his death, reflecting on how his lifelong fascination with illusion and transformation came full circle.
