About this Event
The is a group of community members, government agencies, and senior leadership from Radius Recycling working together to address metal shredding emissions.
We're bringing notorious neighborhood polluter Radius Recycling to the table with community members and government regulators to work towards the common goal of reducing dangerous emissions.
Having regulators from multiple government agencies and leadership from Radius in the same room is a great opportunity to ask tough questions, because it's harder for them to shift the responsibility. This month, we've invited Radius to share directly about their management practices.
Whether you've been involved in the Collaborative before or you're just hearing about it now, we'd love to have you at the May meeting.
Meeting agenda:
5:20 to 5:35: Pre-meeting time to settle in and connect
5:35 to 6:00: Introductions and updates
- Community members discuss goals for their involvement in the Collaborative and share their perspectives
- Update on the March 11 fire at Radius
- Proposal from the Board of Environmental Safety for a workshop on best management practices for metal shredders
6:00 to 6:30: Report-outs from working groups
- Working groups will report on progress since the last meeting and brainstorm topics for future collaborative meetings. Working groups include community reporting and public messaging; codifying and monitoring best practices at facility; and environmental health risk and racial equity
6:30 to 7:05: Working groups set goals and discuss action items
- We'll use the SMART goals framework (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) to set goals for each working group
7:05 to 7:20: Radius Recycling presents on their improved management practices
- We've invited Radius to share pollution control measures and fire prevention measures
7:20 to 7:30: Collaborative dialogue and close-out
