About this Event
Darien Garden Club May Meeting – Plant Exchange
The annual plant exchange is one of our members' favorite events of the year! It's a chance to swap a plant you've grown or purchased for a different plant that was grown or purchased by a DGC member. Our members are passionate about plants, collecting new plants, and sharing their own favorites with others. You never know what kind of plant might make an appearance and be offered in the plant swap!
How to Participate in the Plant Exchange--just a few guidelines and requests:
Please bring only ONE plant to share/exchange.
- The plant can be from your garden, an extra seedling, or a store-bought plant. It can be a houseplant, an annual or perennial garden plant (including ornamental grasses), or even a small shrub or tree.
- Pot the plant (please consider using sterile potting soil).
- Fill out an information tag about your plant. Include as much information as you know about the plant: *common name, *botanical name (if known), *type of plant (houseplant, annual, perennial, native, herb, grass, shrub, etc.), *bloom time/color, *light (full sun, part sun, part shade, etc.) and *soil moisture the plant needs.
- Other helpful information or special instructions: *height and spread of the plant, *native, *attractive to pollinators, * has year-round interest, etc.
- Please bring your potted plant to the meeting in a plastic bag or a box to facilitate transport of the plant and cleanup of our meeting location.
Please consider: Jumping worms are becoming a problem in our area.
If you intend to bring a plant to swap at the May 4th meeting, please read the information in the links below about jumping worms to help you prepare your plant for the exchange. And, when you take your plant home, before you plant it, we encourage you to inspect the plant and soil for jumping worms. Thank you for helping to keep this pest under control.
