Church of the Redeemer | Oklahoma CityMaundy Thursday
April 2, 2026 | 5:30 pm
---
On the night before he died, Jesus did two things.
He took bread and wine and gave them to his friends, saying, Do this in remembrance of me.
And he knelt down and washed their feet—even the feet of the one who would betray him.
Then he said, Love one another as I have loved you.
This is where Holy Week begins. Not with triumph, but with humility. Not with glory, but with service. Not with judgment, but with a basin and a towel and a commandment to love.
Tonight, we will gather at the altar—the same altar built by Mr. John Lewis in the 1930s, under Father Dozier's ministry. The same altar where generations have knelt. The same bread and wine that have sustained this congregation through depression and war, through segregation and struggle, through every change the years have brought.
We will wash feet. We will share a meal. We will remember.
And we will also bring what we have to share.

Works of Mercy Offering
Jesus said, Love one another as I have loved you. On the night he gave us his body and blood, he also showed us that love takes form—in bread, in wine, in service, in food shared with those who hunger.
Please bring nonperishable food items to the Maundy Thursday service. They will be distributed through our Works of Mercy ministries to neighbors in need—the same work this congregation has been doing for over 120 years.
Canned goods. Rice. Beans. Peanut butter. Whatever you can carry.
Bring it to the altar. Leave it at the foot of the cross. Let it become part of the offering.
