Phoenixville teacher and singer-songwriter Matt Cummins follows in the story-telling footsteps of Joe Strummer, Steven Malkmus/Pavement and Carole King. “Music is magic – it has the ability to reveal feeling and nuance so much better than words alone ever could. People are increasingly isolated from each other, and music has this unique ability to cut across typical divides to bring people together”. Matt has a unique ability to make an audience feel connected to the music and to each other – whether playing old favorites or his own songs. While there are moments of quiet earnestness, his lively show can get rowdy with entertaining moments of laughter, singing along and call and response.
Matt is debuting his solo album, “Alternate Ending”. His last full-length album, “Spirit Animals”, featuring the song “Light Years” was released with Walkabouts in 2018. Matt also released three albums with My Friend Autumn from 2008-2014 and one with Zero Beat in 2003.

Steel City Coffeehouse is a listening room, and while the performers love the audience to applaud, laugh and often sing along, too much conversation during the show distracts other listeners and is disrespectful to the songwriters who form the backbone of our music community. We encourage talking before the show, between sets and after the show, but ask that during the performances, audience members keep their voices low and talking to a minimum.
