//From Choros to Candombes, Milongas to Baiões, and Chacareras to Sambas, the music of South America is deeply rooted in the intricate beauty of polyrhythms. These rich, layered rhythms weave connections across cultures and tell stories that transcend borders.
The word Matear refers to the act of sharing mate — a traditional “tea” made from the leaves of Ilex paraguariensis. It’s a cherished ritual in many South American countries, where people come together to talk, share stories, and connect. This spirit of sharing and intimacy lies at the heart of Matear.
With a delicate and heartfelt selection of Brazilian, Argentinian, and Uruguayan music — infused with touches of jazz — we invite you to experience the vibrant soundscape of South America, reimagined in a trio format. Our music seeks to uncover and celebrate the deep cultural connections that unite the South American continent, using rhythm and melody as our common language.
Although the project is less than a year old, Matear has been actively performing in Budapest since the beginning — and this year, we had the joy of bringing our music to the Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2025. Sharing the stage at such a vibrant event was a meaningful moment in our journey to connect South American traditions with new audiences across Europe.
