XR Wandsworth are organising a mass cycle ride and rally on Saturday 23 August. This family-friendly ride will be protected by stewards front and back. The aim is to highlight how the rise of SUVs and car spreading – also known as autobesity! – is choking our streets and our future, and the need for safe cycling infrastructure and car-free streets.The ride will start at 10:30am at Battersea Park (exact location: Parking lot, Carriage Drive North) and will end at 12pm on Garratt Lane Old Burial Ground (opposite Southside Shopping Centre Waitrose entrance) where we will have a rally, outreach and speakers.
The mass cycle ride is a great way to take direct, visible action in our own community – and it's open to everyone, young and old, whether you are experienced riders or cycle-curious. People who can’t take part in the cycle ride can join us at the end of the ride for outreach and speeches.
