POP-UP EXHIBITION
Exploring the multifaceted role of masks in human history
From nature’s masquerade through ancient rituals to modern-day significance, this polyhedric exhibition will take you across many time periods and different realms of mankind's social and creative experiences.
An enriching afternoon event featuring visual & plastic art exhibitions from local and international artists, live dance and music performances, theatre plays and educational talks to dive into the intricate world of MASKS.
Masks hold significant cultural and symbolic meanings for many cultures around the world because they help us to embody energies, hide identities and understand ourselves; even our own Egos/ Personalities can be seen as masks that we use to fit in society and relate to one another, sometimes even unconsciously, and lastly, the contemporary hypervirtual world with social media profiles, avatars and VR offers a multi space for re-signification and infinite possibilities of masking ourselves.

Ritual Artistic Encounter Collective is a creative collective of established migrants in Tamaki Makaurau with the mission to create community, provoke social reflections, bring people together while offering spaces for the artists to express and inspire and for the audience to feel connected and included.
We strongly believe that artistic expression, cultural pride and social belonging are fundamental needs and extremely powerful tools to bring diverse communities together to create a new narrative of coexistence and independence.
