About this Event
Join Tottenham artist Mary Yacoob for a gallery talk about her artworks in the current exhibition ‘Getting the Measure of William Bedwell: Maths, Measurement and the Arabic World’.
Taking place during Women’s History Month, Mary’s artworks are inspired by diagrams from the fields of astronomy, mathematics and architecture, fields in which women’s voices remain significantly under-presented. She discusses her cyanotypes, blueprints which present fictional constellation charts, and drawings which reconfigure geometric diagrams into complex layers of form and colour.
By taking scientific diagrams and images out of their original context and reinterpreting them as artworks, Mary seeks to create new dialogues across the arts and sciences and to transform functional tools into cyphers for the imagination amongst wider audiences.
