About this Event
Marilynne Robinson’s new book Reading Genesis is a profound meditation on the first book of the Bible. In it she explores both its greatness as literature and its rich articulation of themes that resonate throughout the whole of scripture and human history – the problem of evil, God’s relationship to humanity, the meaning of creation.
She will be in conversation about Reading Genesis with Paula Gooder, Biblical scholar and Canon of St Paul’s Cathedral. The evening will include plenty of time for questions and answers.
Marilynne Robinson is an award-winning novelist, best known for her Pulitzer prize-winning Gilead quartet of novels, as well as wide-ranging books of essays which explore among many other subjects the relationships between science, faith, mystery and literature. She is the recipient of a 2012 National Humanities Medal awarded by President Barack Obama for ‘grace and intelligence in writing’, and Rowan Williams has described her is ‘a voice we urgently need to attend to in both Church and society here in the UK’.
Dr Paula Gooder is Canon Chancellor of St Paul’s Cathedral, a renowned Biblical scholar and the author of numerous popular and academic books about the Bible and theology.
