About this Event
Part of Talking Chester — a full day of talks, films and Q&As at Chester Picturehouse on Saturday 23rd May.
Maria Barnard worked at Brown's of Chester from 2002 to 2021, spending much of that time in the Blue Room womenswear department beneath its famous dome chandeliers. When the store closed, she documented the moment through a series of video reports — and this illustrated talk is her love letter to the building and the people who made it special.
Tracing the evolution of the Brown's building from the story of The Rows to the growth of the business and the recent arrival of H Beauty, this is a personal and affectionate portrait of one of Chester's most beloved landmarks, told by someone who knew it from the inside.
