/**Welcome to the first ever March Break Band Camp with Jesse Potter**\Register Here: https://forms.gle/T3S7pgHUFQbcY4my5
Join Wolfville's own music teacher and performing artist for a week of music, from March 16th to the 20th (10:00am - 3:00pm), with a performance on the 21st (6:00pm - 8:00pm). The camp will be held in the beautiful upstairs of the Wolfville Canadian Legion, 310 Main St, Wolfville, NS B4P 1C5. In this specially designed course, your kids will learn the ropes of being in a band, setting up for a performance, and creating marketing materials to bring people together and share the unparalelled experience of live music!
The cost of the camp is $350 and is to be paid by e-transfer to [email protected] after receiving confirmation of your registration. The camp has a total of 12 places available.
If you are finding the cost to be prohibitive, the town of Wolfville's "Mudley Fund" offers up to $300 to help cover the cost of programming. You can apply here: https://wolfville.ca/.../recreation.../financial-assistance
I also have one full scholarship available from Music In Communities Co-op. If your kid is passionate about music and you can't afford this camp, please send an email to [email protected] to discuss eligibility for this funding.
What to expect from the camp:
During the week the kids will be paired into groups and work together while learning the necessary skills to perform and have success in the music industry with a band.
The camp will encompass not only performing, but will also focus on teaching the kids numerous skills such as:
- Music literacy and how to communicate musical ideas
- Instrument technique
- How to set up sound equipment such as amps, microphones, and a PA
- Marketing and branding, how to promote your music
The outline for the day will look something like this:
10:00 - 11:30 - Games and exercises to teach teamwork and music literacy
11:30 - 12:00 - Lunch Break
12:00 - 3:00 - Kids will be split into three groups (bands) and revolve every half hour through three stations -
1. Performance/Practice: this is the station where bands will actually practice their songs performing them live for the group in the next station
2. Sound/Listening: at this station a group will be listening to the performing band and making notes on how the current performing band could improve (with my guidance). This group will also be learning how to operate the sound equipment to help make the performing band sound great.
3. Branding/Marketing: at this station kids will work on creating various materials to support interest and engagement in their band. Some items would include a band name, a logo, a short bio describing their sound, etc. This is also where kids can brainstorm creative ideas for their performance on Saturday.
