Somewhere between the start of the pre-drinks and the end of the after party, MANKS (Matt Banks) decided to start spitting bars.
A few people told him he was good and a few told him he was whack, but from that day on his determination to reflect his environment through smooth flows and witty lyricism has been unwavering.
After releasing his first mixtape, "Honestly", he began MCing over D'N'B and garage visiting some of the South West's most prestigious rave venues.
Sets at The Love Inn, Blue Mountain, Old Crown Courts and Dare 2 Club and Crofters Rights with DJ's such as J Oh Zee, Jakobin, Clarabelle (Bad Girls Club), Exult, IZATT, Vibe Chemistry and PINCH have all been received well by the swathes of sweaty ravers blasting their gun fingers in perfect harmony.
Since returning to his spiritual home of Bristol after lockdown, he's been cutting his teeth on the city's famous hip hop open mic circuit and jam scene.
This has led to producers such as Formi (The X & Tricks), Will.B Beats and Beau Peep all connecting with MANKS and he has begun working on fresh new music with one thing in mind, getting the crowd bouncing as quickly as possible.
His latest EP release "drugs and bass and weirdos” is filled to the brim with bare faced boom bap bangers, and with more new music planned for release by the end of the summer, it looks like there's plenty more to come from a man like MANKS.
