About this Event

Theme of this netwalk

Described in the 19th Century as ‘Hell Upon Earth’, and ‘the lowest, most filthy, and most wicked locality in Manchester’ inhabited by ‘bawds and bullies, thieves and beggars’, we explore the former slum of Angel Meadow.

But were the residents really sinners or just trying to survive? This netwalk tells the stories of the people and the ‘saints’ who wanted to 'save' them.

You’ll also hear tales of pioneer and endeavour across the centuries in the area known as NOMA – a balloon ride, an early skyscraper, a co-operative - and we'll look at the most recent changes to this corner of the 21st Century city.

Who are these netwalks for?

Business professionals who are interested in Manchester history, and like informal networking. Suitable whether you know the city very well or not at all.

Guests often work in law, accountancy, banking, property, marketing etc in the city and beyond.

Where and when?

OUR MEETING POINT - next to the Robert Owen Statue which is at the corner of Balloon Street and Corporation Street near Victoria Station, behind the National Football Museum.

The walk starts at 12.30pm and ends at 1.30pm but I’ll be there from 12.15pm for anyone who wants to fit in some networking before we start.

Practical details

Netwalks go ahead in all weathers, so please dress for the weather and a walk around town.

If you have COVID or COVID-symptoms, please do not attend.

Please let me know if you do not wish your name and company name to appear on a list of attendees.
