We will discover the Mancunians who fought for worker's rights, women’s liberation and LGBT freedom, as well as looking at how Manchester helped lead to the formation of new political ideologies.
A city of Diversity…
The rapid expansion of Manchester brought people from not only the British Isles but all over the world. Continued migration to the city throughout the 20th century has built a melting pot of different cultures which creates the vibrancy the city has today. We will discover some of the communities and how they have helped to shape modern Manchester.
A city of Hedonism and Football…
With Millions working hard leisure became an important escape and Mancunians know how to have fun. Manchester has always been at the forefront of the U.K. music scene, we will hear the stories of how this scene developed, resulting in Manchester being given the nickname of ‘Madchester’. With 2 iconic football teams Manchester is passionate about the beautiful game, we will unearth how this happened and discover what makes someone ‘Red’ or ‘Blue’.
We meet outside the Central Library next to the red telephone boxes. The guide will be holding a folder with SiManchester on it.
