About this Event
Trees/shrubs MUST be ordered by April 16th! Limited supply -- don't delay!
Malvern Resilient Roots! Free Native Tree & Shrubs
Join us at the Neilson Park Community Garden to add beautiful native plants and help to build a greener, more resilient community. Come pick up your free native trees & shrubs and bring your extra native or vegetable seeds/seedlings to trade with other local gardeners.
Don't miss out—let's grow together and make Malvern thrive!
The trees and shrubs come in 1-2 gallon pots making them easy to transport and plant. Like the members of our community, they'll spend the first few years setting down roots -- penetrating deep ito improve the soil and increase rainfall infiltration -- before taking off! Once established, these plants will help to improve air quality, provide cooling shade, and food & habitat for pollinators and other desirable wildlife.
Don't be afraid to think big! While larger trees do need room to grow, your yard has unlimited vertical space -- and trees tend to grow only 1-3ft per year.
"The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now"
All trees/shrubs must be planted on private land in Toronto. Quantities are very limited -- no more than 3 trees/shrubs per household. Orders exceeding that limit will be cancelled.
Order deadline is Thursday April 16th!
Seed & Seedling Swap
This is a time honoured way to increase diversity in your native plant gardens or to add new varieties to your home veggy patch. Please make sure that any plants you bring are free from pests or diseases and carefully inspect any you select before taking them home. NO INVASIVE SPECIES PLEASE! Labels are greatly appreciated -- a limited supply of markers and blank tags will be available for your use.
