Join us for an interactive workshop in which you can decorate your own set of chopsticks with iridescent raden (mother-of-pearl inlay).Glittering raden decoration is a distinctive feature of Takaoka shikki (lacquerware) from Takaoka in Toyama Prefecture. In this hands-on session led by Takaoka-based master craftsman Musashigawa Takeshi, participants can make their own personalised raden design by placing pre-cut shell pieces onto chopsticks.
All materials are provided. To ensure participants can take their creations home on the same day, UV resin and a UV light curing machine is used in place of lacquer to apply the final finish.
Please read our Terms and Conditions for Event Tickets before purchasing your ticket.
A separate talk and demonstration event exploring the distinctive decorative elements of Takaoka shikki is held on Wednesday 6 November from 18:30. Learn more about this event and book a place.
