Bowyers workshop - How to make Greenwood Staves into Bush bows (Tom Brown jr snap bows) to finished hunting or target bows, in one week. Dates July 10th - 15th, Friday evening 6.30pm to Wednesday afternoon 4.30pm.
Where: Graham Downs.
Accommodation: Camping or travel from home for those living locally.
Food: There will be plenty of time each for everyone to sort your own food out each break.
Cost $550-$900, whatever price is comfortable for you.
Day structure, 8am-11.30, 1.30-4.30, 6.30-9.00. This gives ample time to sort food and have breaks.
Tools: Participants need to bring: Small Hatchet (Axe), Flat horse rasp (rough), Half round rasp (rough), Knife (fixed blade).
Course content covered:
Bows: Harvesting, Bow designs, Laying pattern out, roughing out and Curing. Mid-week: Arrows: Harvesting, Curing, Straightening, Nocks, Fletching and Heads. Back to Bows near end of week: Long string tillering, Making final string, Final tillering, Oiling and shooting in.
This course is not just how to make a Bow and Arrow. We will cover what principles and extra skills are needed to produce long term bows that produce food from any variety of timber types available. These Bush bows work for hunting here in NZ bush. There will be conversations on survival bow production as well.
