About this Event
At this time all students must be fully vaccinated and wear a mask.
In this class you'll learn the fundamentals of cutting into endgrain. All materals are included, and you'll even take home your own box! Students should have taken Class one or have experience turning spindles.
Topics covered include:
- Safety (important!)
- Endgrain tools
- order of operations concepts
- Woodturning Techniques
Our maximum class size is 4 people, so you will get lots of 1 on 1 instruction. This is a safe and welcoming place for anyone to learn -- including women, people of color, or gender-nonconforming folks. NOTES: Please wear close-toed shoes and remove any dangling jewelry or clothing items (like hoodie strings) before joining class. Safety first! A water bottle will also be helpful to stay hydrated (there's filtered water and ice available).
FAQs
What is the location like?
The woodshop is inside a larger fabrication shop. It is a functioning, grungy, non-fancypants makerspace full of working people. Expect to get dirty, see people getting dirty, and experience dirt and grime. Bathroom included.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Driving: There is ample and free street parking on 19th Street Please don't leave valuables visible and lock your vehicle.
Public Transportation: The nearest BART station is the West Oakland station. We can't offer a ride from BART, but you can grab a cab or rideshare service from the station. It's just a 3 minute drive from Coliseum BART to NIMBY.
Rideshare: Cabs, Lyft or Uber can easily find NIMBY using the street address. NIMBY is at the end of Amelia Street.
