About this Event
This is a casual, introductory workshop where students learn the steps for creating their first bonsai. Each step is demonstrated and then students follow along to with their own tree which they will take home at the end of the session.
Make a Bonsai workshops are suitable for anyone who is interested in bonsai or wants a basic introduction to set themselves up for further study. This one is on Japanese Holly, which has no thorns, and is a forgiving outdoor species for beginners to work on.
Bonsai is the art of growing and shaping miniature trees in containers. Come and learn how to make your own with Darren Melhus from the BC Bonsai Society.
Darren's knowledge includes art concepts, horticultural considerations, and specialized techniques. You can expect to leave feeling grounded and confident even if you are new to the hobby.
Bring your gloves and everything else is provided!
This class is hands-on in a covered outdoor space, so dress for the weather in clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty and prepare to enjoy an afternoon of education and creativity!
Absolutely no experience is required.
Workshop space is limited to 10.
