About this Event
Join us for an afternoon of culture, storytelling, and play at Bibliotheek Neude, where we celebrate the beauty of connection through the documentary Meer dan Babi Pangang and the timeless game of Mahjong.
We begin with a screening of Meer dan Babi Pangang (2025), a documentary by Julie Ng that follows her personal search into the history of the Chinese-Dutch restaurant and her own family roots. Babi pangang — who doesn't know the iconic dish? But behind the sweet-and-sour pork strips lies a bigger story. As her parents' restaurant faces closure, Julie dives into what it means to adapt, belong, and carry culture across generations. A film that invites you to look beyond the takeaway menu.
After the screening, the filmmaker joins a short panel discussion about cultural identity, community, and how traditions like Mahjong bring people together.
Afterwards, you're invited to stay and play Mahjong. Whether you're completely new or already familiar, our hosts from Red Dragon Social Club will guide you through it.
🎟️ Ticket options:
- Panel + Film + Mahjong — for those who'd like to join the full experience.
- Panel + Film + Mahjong + Instructions — for those who'd like to join the full experience and don't know how to play the game yet.
We have a limited amount of reserved seats, but there will also be a few open tables available to the public on a first come, first served basis. If you definitely want to play, make sure to reserve your spot early!
