Maemo ist das Musikprojekt der schweizerisch-marokkanischen Sängerin Malika Alaoui, die heute in Berlin lebt. Malika tourte vier Jahre lang als Leadsängerin der Show Alegría des Cirque du Soleil um die Welt, bevor sie Maemo gründete – ein Projekt, das ihren unerschütterlichen Wunsch nach kreativer Entfaltung und künstlerischer Freiheit symbolisiert.

Die Songs von Maemo werden auf Französisch, Kreolisch, Marokkanisch-Arabisch (Darija) und in erfundenen Sprachen geschrieben. Die Musik ist tief verwurzelt in den Klängen Nord- und Westafrikas, karibischen Rhythmen, Blues und Jazz. Europäische Einflüsse wie Akkordeon, Musik aus den Alpen, poetik Zirkus, französische Chanson und Osteuropäische “Gypsy” Klänge fließen ebenfalls ein.

Die Musik lässt sich von der Schönheit der Berge, der Fülle der Ebenen, der Wärme des Stadtlebens inspirieren. Sie spricht von Menschen, von Mangel, von Verlassenheit, von Liebe, von der Sehnsucht nach Freiheit, von Lebensfreude, vom Tod, vom Gefühl, lebendig zu sein. Die Musik ist spontan und authentisch, sie vereint extreme Freude und tiefe Melancholie, wie ein Schrei aus dem Herzen. Maemo ist letztlich eine Ode an das Leben und das Hier und Jetzt.

Maemo is the music project of Swiss-born, half-Moroccan singer Malika Alaoui, now based in Berlin. Malika toured the world for four years as the lead singer of the Alegría show by Cirque du Soleil before founding Maemo, a project that symbolizes her unwavering pursuit of creative expression and artistic freedom.

Described as “Afropean Nomad Chanson,” Maemo is a five-piece band with Malika as the primary composer and lyricist. The band members include:

Maemo’s songs are performed in French, Creole, Moroccan Arabic (Darija), and invented languages. The music is deeply rooted in the sounds of Northern and Western Africa, Caribbean rhythms, blues, and jazz, while also incorporating elements of French chanson, Eastern and Central European Gypsy traditions, poetic circus music. and even touches of ancestral voices influences.

The music draws inspiration from the beauty of mountains, the abundance of plains, and the warmth of urban life. Its themes explore the human experience: longing, abandonment, love, the thirst for freedom, the sweetness of life, death, and the profound feeling of being alive. Spontaneous and authentic, Maemo’s sound is an emotional journey blending intense joy with deep melancholy—like a cry from the heart. Ultimately, Maemo is an ode to life, celebrating the beauty of the present moment.

Maemo est le projet musical de la chanteuse Malika Alaoui, née en Suisse de mère suisse et de père marocain, aujourd'hui installée à Berlin. Malika a parcouru le monde pendant quatre ans en tant que chanteuse principale du spectacle Alegría du Cirque du Soleil avant de fonder Maemo, un projet qui symbolise son engagement inébranlable pour l'expression créative et la liberté artistique.

Elle intègre également des influences européennes, comme l’accordéon, la musique des Montagnes, la chanson francophone et des petits clins d'oeil à la musique de cirque poétique.

La musique s’inspire de la beauté des montagnes, de l'abondance des plaines, de la chaleur de la vie urbaine. Elle parle des gens, du manque, de l'abandon, d'amour, de soif de liberté, de douceur de vivre, de mort, de se sentir vivant.
