Since the magical 1980s, the species known as Raver focused on creating the perfect dance move to express on this dance floor of life. Around the same time, Madmotormiquel — a young boy from the limited-travel zone of West Berlin — decided he wanted to find a sound that knew no limits to their dedication. Oh shit, another DJ is born. Armed with an expanding taste in classic punk rock and hip-hop, soon he was led into the world of powerful beats that the future-forming kids around him loved so much. He met them in the church of acid techno, big-beat, and drum and bass.
In these places, he jockeyed the discs for many weekends until it was clear he needed to have a say on the beats himself. Here, under the light of a crescent moon, a new producer was born. By now, the Berlin Wall was well and truly down, and you could even buy small pieces of it from the shop. This meant his home city was filled with more space than the ravers knew how to sing and dance about. With that, they squatted its old factories and made techno rituals in the neighboring fields. There, they danced and played and danced and played until one day someone said, "Hey, vie not bring all ze ideas of all ze different people together and start something that will blow everyone avay, Ja?" This was when the Bachstelzen came alive and when the name Madmotormiquel became synonymous with everything the Berlin house music parade has been known for since.
With a continuous stream of releases spreading to all corners of the planet, he often gets the chance to make up for his past's limited travel. Now, he spends his weekends playing his music in exotic locations with nice people, enabling us to perfect the art of shape-making one dance floor at a time.
Carista, full name Carista Naömi Eendragt, is a DJ born and based in Utrecht Overvecht, the Netherlands. She is known for her diverse selection of genres, including broken beat, bruk-riddims, house, bass-heavy sounds, disco and boogie.
She was born and raised in Utrecht Overvecht as a child of Surinamese parents. She grew up in a musical environment. On Sunday mornings, her mother would fill the house with the melodies of soul, jazz, and Caribbean or Surinamese music as she went about her cleaning routine. Her two uncles were members of a kaseko band, and her mother occasionally joined in. It involved lively house parties in their apartment where all the chairs and sofas were pushed aside, the band played on the balcony, and family and friends gathered to dance, enjoy drinks, savor food, and share laughter and jokes. “I absolutely loved it as a child.”. Carista first started out playing the guitar.
She was raised in a neighborhood surrounded by Moroccan, Caribbean, African, and Turkish communities. Attending a public school, she never felt any different over the years because she grew up immersed in a diverse environment. This upbringing has instilled in her the natural inclination to be around various cultures with their unique reference points and to approach everyone with kindness. “I like to bring people of all backgrounds and adoration for music and the creativity that comes from or with it together.”
She didn’t consciously choose to become a DJ, but her journey in music started gaining momentum rapidly. Alongside the increasing responsibilities at her job, her DJ gigs became more frequent on weekends. While it wasn’t a full-blown burnout, she often found herself falling ill. She’d spend two weeks recovering, only to return to work in the third week because people relied on her. “For the umpteenth time, I went to my mom and said, ‘You, I’m sick again, Mom, can you make some soup for me?’ That’s when she said, ‘Maybe you should take the risk and do what you really want to do.” In 2018, she decided to leave her job and dedicate herself to DJing full-time. Since then, her health has improved significantly.
