This course is for intermediate or experienced garment makers, and is curated for people who want to understand their own body and begin designing or altering patterns to fit them perfectly.In this course you will create your own customised bodice, skirt and sleeve blocks (2D blueprints) to fit your body perfectly.
● Taking full measurements
● Ease: the difference between wearing and design ease
● Determining the best size based on some simple sums.
● Understanding common adjustments for a better fit, including:
- Dart shifting
- Lowering and raising bust points
- Bust adjustments
- Armholes
- Broad/narrow back, shoulders and chest
- Straight/sway back
● Block tracing
● Adjusting bodice block on paper
● Adjusting skirt block on paper
● Adjusting sleeve block on paper
● Cutting and making a toile
● Fitting a toile
● Marking adjustments on a toile
● Transferring adjustments to a paper pattern
● Cutting card blocks and applying important markings
● Basic skills in designing from block
● Using a block to adjust shop bought patterns.
You will need:
● A comfortable fitted or semi-fitted t-shirt that can be marked on.
● Tape measure.
● French curve ruler also known as a pattern master.
● Mechanical pencil
● Different coloured pencils or ballpoint pens.
● Fabric marker or pen
● Sewing Machine
● Thread (coloured)
● Fabric scissors or rotary cutter (mats provided)
● Paper scissors
● Pins
● Safety pins
All calico, tracing paper, cardboard, cutting mats and irons will be provided. A dressing room will be available on site. A copy of ‘Figure Your Fit’ is also included in the price.
