Join Mad Swirl this 1st Wednesday of April (aka 04.02.25) when we’ll be doin’ the open mic voodoo that we do do at our OC home, Barbara’s Pavillion!Hosts Johnny O & MH Clay will get things started starting with some musical grooves brought to you by Swirve (Chris & Tamitha Curiel, Gerard Bendiks) to be followed by our feature set then on to open mic madness!
This month we are featuring local poet, writer, facilitator & vocalist for Swirve, Tamitha Curiel! Here’s a bit about Tamitha:
Tamitha Curiel is an artist and educator based in Pleasant Grove, Dallas. Her work has appeared in Sutterville Review, The Dallas Medianale, White Rock Zine Machine, Inverse/Looped, Mad Swirl, and Decolonize Dallas. She creates mixed media work with Tejana Cósmica, programs for Pegasus Media Project and she performs spoken word with her husband, Chris, in the experimental band, Swirve. She is a mom to their three amazing kids, a big sister, and most recently an abuela. She is an advocate for her extended family’s health and education access. Her current artistic practice involves exploring ancestral pasts, connection to land, how our varied histories shape our cultural present, and how art and organizing practices can help shape a bold, innovative, compassionate, restful, and energizing future—a future that includes creative care for those with disabilities, those who care for them, our elders, and ourselves.
After our feature set we will commence with our usual unusual open mic!
