About this Event
While most of the coffee we drink comes from Arabica and Robusta, Excelsa is a lesser-known species that grows well in warmer, lower-altitude conditions. Interest in it has grown as the industry considers how coffee can adapt to a changing climate, but for us this is first and foremost about the cup.
Still relatively uncommon in the UK, Excelsa offers something a little different from the coffees most of us taste every day.
This lot comes from Equatoria in Western Equatoria State, part of a wider effort to revive coffee cultivation in a region with a long but often overlooked history of growing the crop. Today, the project works with more than 1,500 local outgrowers across Nzara and Yambio, building coffee back into a meaningful source of income.
We’ll share more about the farm and the wider project, then taste and discuss it together with Ian Paterson of Equatoria, Dave Burton from Omwani and Nat Cumming from Machina. We’ll finish the evening with beers, pizza and plenty of time to chat.
Spaces are limited and we’d love you to join us.
