About this Event
Little Venice Film Festival – Special Q&A Event
A conversation with Tom Peppiatt, Aki Ra and Jon Swain
Join us for a powerful and thought-provoking evening at the Little Venice Film Festival featuring a special screening of My Husband the Child Soldier, directed by Tom Peppiatt, followed by a live Q&A with the film’s director, Aki Ra and Jon Swain.
The discussion will feature Tom Peppiatt alongside Aki Ra — a former child soldier who has dedicated his life to clearing landmines in Cambodia and rescuing children from the legacy of war. Once forced to fight as a child, Aki Ra has since become one of the world’s most remarkable humanitarian figures, personally removing tens of thousands of landmines and founding the Cambodia Self Help Demining organization.
They will be joined by renowned journalist Jon Swain, whose decades of reporting from Southeast Asia have documented the region’s conflicts and their lasting human impact. Together, the panel will reflect on the realities behind the film, the history and legacy of war in Cambodia, and the extraordinary work being done to heal communities and remove the deadly remnants of conflict.
This conversation will explore the making of My Husband the Child Soldier, the realities of child soldiering, and Aki Ra’s extraordinary journey from survivor to activist. The event will also highlight the ongoing work to clear unexploded landmines and support communities rebuilding after conflict.
Expect an honest, moving, and inspiring dialogue about resilience, justice, and the power of individuals to create change.
